"Aroen, I admire your fashion sense. Very risqué. *grin*"
Pink and brown actually go together quite well. As do light blues and brown.
So far as silver and gold being opposites, here's my take on it...
Silver is greyish/blueish in its reflective etc properties. So I believe it would be safe to say that silver is more a part of the cool color family. Gold is obviously more of a yellow tint, and is thus part of the warm color family. In that way, they're opposites. If we continue along the lines of silver having cooler reflective tendencies, blue and orange / yellow / "gold" are complimentary colors, being opposites on the color wheel.
And like Weslyn said, they can also be considered opposites in the respect that they're often paired against each other when people are asked of their preference. As in, "gold or silver?" Kind of like "Batman or Superman?"
I personally prefer the silver to bronze because I feel that it is more in harmony with the blue. Since bronze has a number of orange tones to it, it's more of a complimentary to the blue, and creates a very vibrant appearance. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but blue and silver are both "cool" colors in my mind, and so they work better as a color combination given the amounts of each color present. Especially when you look at the other scarf color combinations : green and silver are both cool colors, red and gold are both warm, and ...well....Hufflepuff is kind of off on its own here, but it uses the warm of yellow/gold and black is...all purpose.
It's all about balance.
It's also hard to find a good bronze-colored yarn that doesn't look too brown or brassy. Silver is much easier to substitute in grey for....when...knitting.... yeah...haha.
Oh...and Chris? Why on earth would you be coating bacteria with gold? Are you plating them? Or is there some other biological value to that that I'm not aware of? haha

Methinks somebody had waaay too much free time to think all that out...
And you coat bacteria with gold in order to view them better under a certain kind of microscope.

hahaha that took me all of like five minutes to type out. ...I don't really have a whole lot of free time.
please keep in mind that my current major kind of requires me to breathe, eat, dream, bleed, and live color theory, composition, design, and a number of other things...it's kind of just...there...in my brain....
hmm.. that's interetsing about the bacteria though. but why gold? are there particular atomical properties about the gold that are needed where some cheaper metal wouldn't be able to be used?

It doesn't have to be gold, but it does have to be a heavy metal. The metal coating (microscopically thin, so it doesn't use a whole lot of metal) reflects electrons which activate a phosphorescent screen, which is necessary to use a scanning electron microscope.

You do not! You complain everytime I listen to it, saying "This isn't music!" You don't even like System Of A Down and they're not even a metal band! *grumbles* Anyway, much kudos goes to kitty for her ever so cleverly put assertion of the Gold and Silver as Opposites discussion. And yes, we do eat, sleep and breathe color theory as well as a number of other "Art" things. (That's if we remember to eat and sleep -breathing's kind of necessary, not to mention an involuntary function -for which I am grateful cause if it wasn't I'd prolly forget to do that too from time to time. ) ~Weslyn.
